About Us

Biruh Addis Charity Organization (BACO) is a local, non-profit, non-partisan, and non-governmental charitable organization founded by a group of fifteen dedicated individuals who are survivors of human trafficking. Established on April 7, 2023, with registration number 6796 from the Authority for Civil Society Organizations in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, BACO is uniquely positioned to address the complexities of human trafficking through the perspectives of those who have experienced it firsthand. Our leadership, composed entirely of trafficking survivors, drives our mission with profound personal insight and commitment.

Biruh Addis Charity Organization (BACO) is currently implementing the Survivor-Led Fund project, funded by Freedom Fund, which is a dedicated financial resource designed to support initiatives and projects led by survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery. This fund empowers survivor-led organizations by providing them with the resources necessary to create and manage Projects that address the unique challenges they encounter. By prioritizing survivor leadership, the fund ensures that those who have experienced exploitation firsthand can influence policies, advocate for change, and develop solutions that are truly reflective of the needs of their communities.

The Survivor-Led Fund also promotes the principle of survivor empowerment, fostering a space where survivors can share their expertise, lead advocacy efforts, and support one another in the journey toward healing and justice. Biruh Addis Charitable Organization has launched an ongoing initiative aimed at sharing the life experiences of individuals who have successfully navigated the process of legally migrating to the Middle East countries. This initiative, designed to provide practical guidance and inspiration, is taking place at the Jobs and Skills Office in Addis Ketema City, specifically in Sub-city/Woreda 5. Through a series of scheduled sessions, returnees who have had positive and lawful migration experiences are invited to share their personal stories.

Successfully advocated for policy improvements and implementation in collaboration with government bodies and other NGOs.

As part of the program, Biruh Addis provided intensive Arabic language training to enhance communication skills, essential for effective interaction in the workplace. Additionally, trainers drew from their personal experiences to familiarize participants with Arab culture, norms, and work practices prevalent in Middle East. This practical insight into daily life and professional expectations helped prepare trainees for the cultural adjustments they may encounter.

As a result of conducting a comprehensive basic safeguarding training program, seven employees at the Bay Area Community Organization (BACO) are now equipped with essential knowledge and skills to ensure the safety and protection of all individuals they interact with, particularly vulnerable populations.

Creating awareness by traveling to different places in leading positions In accordance with Proclamation No. 1178/2012 issued to ban the crime of human and illegal border crossing, besides protecting themselves from falling into the hands of illegal brokers, there is a call to work together to reduce the suffering of citizens by exposing illegal brokers. .
